I started class by having the students answer the Bleeding Kansas “big idea questions.” (Bleeding Kansas Big Idea Questions) While they were working on that I checked their homework. We spent quite a bit of time discussing popular sovereignty and John Brown.
I gave the students three multiple-choice questions from an old exam about the impact of westward expansion on slavery. I had the students read the questions and put them in their own words BEFORE reading the excerpt. Some students found this more helpful since they had a better idea what they were looking for in the excerpt. It takes more time, but I’m hoping with practice the students will be able to answer the questions quicker.
For the remainder of class I had the students get a head start on their hw tomorrow: Chapter 13 Video Guide, Chapter 13 Vocab Quiz, Chapter 13 Key Questions (An assignment I created where students have to answer questions based on the information from Chapter 13.)
Have a great night!
