Here’s another lesson idea that could work for any topic. I introduce this project for technological inventions during the Market Revolution. I cannot write poetry to save my life, but I am good at counting syllables, so I am drawn to haikus.
Here’s the assignment I give to my students:
After watching the video, Technology and Transportation During the Market Revolution, you will create 4 haikus based on improvements during the Market Revolution. You MUST choose 4 of the topics listed below:
- Market Revolution
- Interstate road – Cumberland Road
- Erie Canal
- Steam boat(s)
- Cotton gin
- Steel plow
- McCormick Reaper
- Interchangeable Parts
Only for New York?
I cannot in good conscience
Agree to fund this
— James Monroe vetoing federal funding for the Erie Canal
I turn the haikus the students make into multiple-choice questions. I will have the haiku be a stimulus and then create answer choices.
